Data Offloading Solutions

Cutting data load and boosting innovation. Ever-increasing demand for wireless bandwidth is driving Communication Equipment Providers and Operators to come up with innovative, cost-effective solutions to minimize load on radio and core networks. Data offloading helps decrease the data on radio/core networks by routing selected traffic through alternate channels—helping to cut the congestion and complexity of core networks and reduce CAPEX and OPEX requirements.

Many factors go into choosing the optimal data offloading solution, including existing infrastructure, bandwidth usage, customer requirements, policy and charging mechanisms, quality of service (QoS) and more. Communication Equipment Providers use our data offloading solutions to develop feature-rich products that help operators in a variety of ways—from providing their customers with seamless connectivity to implementing common charging and better policy control. Sysmetlab offers tailor-made data offloading software for the most popular wireless technologies, including 3G, WiMAX and LTE.

3G Offloading

3G has been widely deployed and will continue to exist with 4G technologies for a long time to come. 3G data offloading can be achieved through small cells and small cell gateways or WiFi Offload gateway. Sysmetlab provides comprehensive software offerings that help OEMs/SIs develop innovative network solutions while cost-effectively cutting time to market.

There are multiple ways to implement 3G Data Offloading, including:

Small Cell/Femtocell

A local 3GPP access point such as a small cell or a Picocell can be used to either access the local network directly or optimally route selected data traffic through a core network—or even bypass it completely. Sysmetlab’s software framework for 3G femtocells is a fully 3GPP R8/R9 standards compliant software framework and has a comprehensive set of protocol software and applications for complete 3G signaling capability and basic call control support.

Small cell/Femtocell Gateway

A home NodeB gateway can be deployed to provide an alternate data path that bypasses the core network to help reduce congestion. Small cells can ease congestion not just in the core network but also in the macro radio access network.

The Sysmetlab HNB GW can scale up to 5K HNB and 50K subscriber sessions. It provides multi operator support to work in an MVNO deployment and can run on any 32/64 bit Little/Big Endian platform that runs Linux. This solution is highly scalable and can run on any COTS/proprietary hardware of varying form factors including SBC, laptop, desktop, RMS, uTCA chassis and ATCA chassis. It provides high throughput and high availability interfaces for optimized performance.

WiFi Offload

WiFi is an inexpensive and widely available technology that makes WiFi offloading an extremely attractive option. TTG/PDG is deployed to support untrusted/trusted WiFi networks where UE needs to establish a secure IPSec tunnel with the WiFi access GW. Sysmetlab’s software solution for PDG/TTG can support up to one million subscriber sessions and can run on any 32/64bit Little/Big Endian platform running Linux. It supports a highly scalable architecture and redundancy hooks, as well as an option to run in a trusted WiFi network.

LTE Offloading

LTE is the global technology of choice for catering to high-bandwidth applications and devices. Like 3G, data on an LTE network can be offloaded through small cells and small cell gateways or a WiFi Offload gateway. Our comprehensive software solutions have helped real-world OEMs/SIs cost-effectively accelerate the development of winning network solutions.

There are multiple ways to implement LTE Data Offloading, including:

Small Cell/Femtocell

Similar to 3G—even in the case of LTE—a local 3GPP access point can be used to either access the local network directly or route selected data traffic optimally through a core network, or even bypass it completely. Our small cell LTE framework provides complete Layer 2 and 3 functionality and integrates Layer 2 and Layer 3+ modules in a package that serves as a robust reference platform for developing complete LTE femtocell solutions.

Small cell/Femtocell Gateway

A home eNodeB gateway can be deployed to provide an alternate data path that bypasses the core network—thus helping to reduce congestion. There are two ways this solution can be deployed based on the offloading requirement. In the first option the HeNBGW handles both the control and the data traffic and in the second it handles only control traffic. The Sysmetlab HeNBGW solution supports both the deployment options and can run on a wide variety of COTS platforms. It provides multi-operator support for an MVNO deployment and can run on any 32/64 bit Little/Big Endian platform that is running Linux.

WiFi Offload

WiFi is an inexpensive and widely available technology that makes WiFi offloading an extremely attractive option. There are two options available based on the WiFi network, an ePDG is used for an untrusted WiFi network and SaMOG/WLAN access gateway is used for a trusted network. Sysmetlab’s software solution for ePDG and SaMOG can support upto 1M+ subscriber sessions. This solution is highly scalable and all modules support multi-threading. It also provides high throughput and supports high availability network elements.

This software is available on all generic platforms and has most commercial carrier grade features.

WiMAX Offloading

WiMAX is a mature technology that has been deployed globally in various niche markets. Data offloading for WiMAX can be implemented though WiMAX Gateways and WiFi offloading. Sysmetlab provides both integrated Gateway solutions and WiFi Gateways for implementing WiMAX data offloading. Our industry-proven software is trusted by OEMs/SIs to cost-effectively speed the development of innovative, profitable network solutions.

WiMAX data offloading can be implemented through WiMAX Gateway Solutions and WiMAX WiFi Offloading.

WiMAX Gateway Solutions

Sysmetlab has easy-to-deploy, highly scalable software frameworks that provide effective and optimal offloading solutions.

WiMAX Integrated Gateway (WING)

WING is an integrated software solution consisting of a Profile C ASN Gateway, an Authentication, Authorization, and Accounting (AAA) Server and Home Agent components—all co-located on a single network node which supports both nomadic and mobile subscribers. This framework can scale to support 200,000 subscribers and serve the needs of rural, Tier 3 and enterprise deployments.

eASN

eASN is a complete Profile-C ASN Gateway software framework with control plane, data plane, and management plane functionalities. eASN can scale to support up to 300,000 subscribers and serve the needs of rural/Tier-3 to medium/high density deployments.

WiMAX WiFi Offloading

WiFi is an inexpensive and widely available technology that makes WiFi offloading an extremely attractive option. A WiFi Gateway is used to provide WiMAX WiFi offloading for both trusted and untrusted WiFi networks. Sysmetlab’s WiMAX WiFi Gateway solution can support 100K subscriber sessions and can run on any 32/64bit Little/Big Endian platform running Linux. This solution provides multiple High Availability support and is compatible with the latest WiMAX forum NWG standards.
